Leadership Transformation
“A newfound sense of purpose and mindfulness—exactly what I needed in a chaotic year.”

Matthew Kessi poses for a selfie in a large rhododendron bush with bright red and pink blooms. he's smiling and wearing a green and white checkered shirt.

Hello. I’m Matthew Kessi, a Nature travel enthusiast, writer, photographer, recovering android, and reclaiming my inner weirdo. I am a healer.

My spiritual journey has been one of amazing transformation from an android who rushed and succumbed to anxiety and misalignment to a calming acceptance of all the things that make me fascinating, mystic, and, yes, an endearing weirdo. I understand what it’s like to try to move from a hectic daily life to connecting with my own wild Nature—it often feels like a fish swimming upstream.

And, yet, the salmon follow their ancestral instinct to do this every season.

You may peruse my website, or check out my social media feeds and see me as a shamanic type, offering healing and wellness in my plaid flannels and all-weather gear. Since I live in the Pacific Northwest, it makes sense to keep warm and dry. That is my external look these days, yes.

But I know that no matter the garb, the road to self-clarity is paved with uncomfortable conversations, days in the quicksand of mind contortions, the terror of healing profound trauma and loss, and the triumph of perseverance.

I’ve resisted my gifts and talents for much of my life! As a child, my mystic sensitivities arrived very early for me, in the woods of Oregon. But sexual violence and emotional trauma–by the time I was six–shocked me into choosing to distance myself from the pains of the external world.

My healing, wellness, and awakening journey–unravelling all the protective webs–taught me that the first step toward the transformational benefits of self-clarity is waking up to your own wild Nature.

Why is waking up to your true Nature Connection so important?

If you are asleep to your own wild Nature, it’s easy to fall prey to external influences that convince you to abandon creativity, vulnerability, and intuition. After all, the incentives in today’s world to get you to slumber are very seductive and profitable. And the fatigue of daily life makes accepting this spell seem very desirable.

I fell asleep during a 25-year corporate career, where I spent much of my time as a chameleon, mitigating risk at all costs. I abandoned myself in a slow death of a thousand paper cuts. Even while excelling in many areas of my professional and personal life, this slumber felt like a smoldering from within, begetting anxiety and the impostor phenomenon. When my position was eliminated, like jumping into an ice bath, the parts of my inner self returned to activation.

But waking up needn’t require drastic measures in the external world. It’s about dusting off and empowering awareness that you already have flourishing in your own wild Nature.

Are you overwhelmed by work stress and seeking renewed purpose? Wake up to what’s at the core of your fatigue so you can make lasting changes that reposition the professional “why?”

Longing for a deeper connection with nature and your true self? Wake up to your creativity, vulnerability, and intuition on the way to surprise and delight in the future.

Yearning for relief from feelings of fear, anxiety, futility, and anger? Wake up to the knowledge within you that already understands how to heal and find wellness.

Can you relate to some of these challenges? Do any of these people sound like you? Click on an archetype to learn how Spiritual Coaching can help you reach your aspirations.

The Approach: What does waking up to my true Nature Connection look like?

Imagine your inner self is made up of three key pillars: Mind, Heart, Gut. Shortly after you register for the first time, we’ll have an intake call to customize the best program to meet your needs–including logistics like planning meeting dates. The initial six 90-minute sessions are virtual on Zoom and based on the fundamentals around “Six Questions to Ask Yourself for a Deeper Nature Connection.” This approach offers a simple and proven structure that can be adapted to best meet your needs.

Here’s what our 60-minute Spiritual Coaching sessions entail:

  • First, we begin with a simple Nature Connection practice where I help you prepare for our session. Imagine a virtual slow walk in the forest, as if to fully exhale all the details of daily life so you can be more present to your inner self.
  • Then, we’ll work with the general themes for each session, like “How can you say yes to your own wild Nature?” for Session #1. (This is always customized to your needs)
  • You’ll have plenty of opportunities to engage curiosity and get feedback. Perhaps you’ll feel inspired to unlock pieces of inner wisdom.
  • You’ll depart with seeds planted that you can cultivate until we meet again.

What does waking up to my true Nature Connection look like?

Imagine that your inner self stands on three pillars that require equal strength: the Head, the Heart, and the Gut. Our culture throws all kinds of stimulation at us, wreaking havoc on our own sense of balance, say between fear (which lives in the mind) and courage (which lives in the heart). Emotions can get the best of us, leading to comments made in the heat of the moment that you instantly know (from the gut) were damaging and wrong.

Just like Nature is balanced or rebalances after a shock, it’s in our wild Nature to have balance. But if you’re not always awake to the distribution of influences, misalignment develops, which leads to tension, anxiety, and strife. It might mean you’re unable to manage emotions in the moment or be present to yourself, loved ones, or life circumstances.

Waking up to your own wild Nature allows you to practice and readjust imbalances in the moment for better results in daily life. For example, an aggravating current event article that trips your mind can be balanced with a sense of courage from your heart and the notion of resilience from your gut to keep you from spiraling.

Now, imagine waking up to your own wild Nature enough to hold all the attributes listed below on speed dial to instinctively flow through you in any given circumstance. What would it mean to apply courage to balance another sensation, or allow curiosity to balance judgment of actions taking by a friend?

Finally, waking up to your own wild Nature doesn’t mean you don’t already use your Head, Heart, and Gut. Of course, you depend on all three every day. But waking up to your own wild Nature means you develop more fluency using all the resources within your inner self–leading you to more healing, wellness, and awakening.

Our DNA holds 30,000 years of deep Nature Connection. You already know how to find healing, wellness, and awakening within your human cells! This magic is embedded in the joy of a flower blooming, the mystique of a technicolor sunset, or the awe of a whale breaching.

With practice, you can awaken–and benefit from–an ancestral sense of belonging, resilience, and purpose. But if daily life drains your batteries, you may need to practice returning to your own wild Nature. These three fundamentals are listed in a more in-depth article, Six questions to deepen your Nature Connection, which you may find helpful.

Enter well. Activate a physiological change by saying a mindful “yes” to Nature’s Wisdom. Imagine crossing the threshold into a friend’s home: “Here I am!”

          Slow down. Keep present.

Whether your eyes move along the skyline or you’re walking in the park, stay present to the pace. A natural pace is sustainable and neither stagnant nor rushed.

            Open the door to curiosity.

What do you notice about your own wild Nature? Where are you drawn? What do you avoid noticing? What thoughts, feelings, and intuitions arise? Track each experience.
