Where to enjoy Seattle forest bathing in the rain

January 24, 2023 by Matthew

Forest bathing in Seattle is a delight when the light shines through the collection of fir trees like in this photo with a spruce and younger hemlock tree with moss dangling from the branches.

The wet season in Seattle can feel oppressive. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest and connecting with nature from an early age, I enjoy the healing and well-being that comes from forest bathing – rain or shine. But sometimes, this glee for mud puddles and wet cedar branches feels unique.   Now you might be looking outside your window, watching vast droplets of … [Read more...] about Where to enjoy Seattle forest bathing in the rain

Gardens in Seattle — the 18 best places to go into your own nature

May 25, 2022 by Matthew

Bright pink azalea blossoms bring life to a garden in Seattle. The delicate red pistols project out from the flowers and bright green foliage is blurred out in the background.

Seattle has been my home for over ten years, and in that time I’ve explored just about every corner of the Emerald City and areas around the Salish Sea. The pandemic offered me a gift of anchoring down and getting even more familiar with the open green spaces in our beautiful part of the world. I’ve always had a special connection to nature, but my mystic heart opened even … [Read more...] about Gardens in Seattle — the 18 best places to go into your own nature

Seattle to Vancouver drive — plan the best road trip

August 9, 2021 by Matthew

The giant Peace Arch at the United States Canada border is a milestone along the Seattle to Vancouver Drive. The giant white marble columns are located on a grassy green lawn with trees and gardens and both the US and Canadian flags fly proudly overhead.

This wonderland we call the Pacific Northwest is a region with vast beauty and variety that encompasses two countries and several states -- depending upon who you ask. Regardless of semantics and despite the political border, we blend together in commerce, history, spectacular natural beauty, and fantastic itineraries for visitors -- whether you're returning or exploring for … [Read more...] about Seattle to Vancouver drive — plan the best road trip

Moving to Seattle — 9 great ways to connect with Washington

July 21, 2021 by Matthew

This panoramic view of the skyline of Seattle includes the Space Needle and the Columbia Center amongst other prominent buildings. The lush blue water of the Salish Sea is rolling with gentle waves while two kayakers in bright colored boats navigate the gentle waters.

Post summary: a helpful list of easy ways to connect with nature for those new or moving to Seattle Seattle has been my home for ten years now. The abundance of nature in every direction inspires me everyday — flowing waterways, majestic mountain peaks and green textures all combine to form a rich fabric of organic goodness.  My life living in the Capitol Hill … [Read more...] about Moving to Seattle — 9 great ways to connect with Washington

8 of the best things to do on Whidbey Island

July 7, 2021 by Matthew

The Coupeville Wharf is a fun thing to do on Whidbey Island. The red wood building is entirely over the water on a dock while a few boats are tied to the pier. In the foreground is a curved metal lamp with a light bulb coming from the fixture. There are a number of seagulls sitting on the point of the wooden roof. The sunset is casting a pinkish yellow glow on the hills in the background.

In the heart of the magical Salish Sea lies an island steeped in rich history. Growing up in Oregon, I didn’t know much about Whidbey Island until my friend Jerry showed me photos of a visit to friends living in a tiny farmhouse amidst a flowing field of overgrown greens — sporadic flowers pushing their way through the noise to reach the sun. Since then, I’ve always had a rich … [Read more...] about 8 of the best things to do on Whidbey Island

I would like to acknowledge that much of my inspiration comes from living on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
