25 Hidden Oregon and Washington hotels — unique places to stay

May 8, 2023 by Matthew

The Frenchglen hotel lights up the night with several windows shining bright as the stars in the sky above push out their light too. There are many cars parked in the front of the hotel, which is hidden under the brushy popular and cottonwood trees.

Some people consider lodging simple utility in a journey, but not me. The location, the spirit (or vibe), and access to nature are crucial to creating an inviting setting to unplug, unwind, and be open to new experiences -- with yourself, loved ones, and the land. Watching all the paid advertising when searching for Oregon and Washington hotels can be challenging. I've … [Read more...] about 25 Hidden Oregon and Washington hotels — unique places to stay

10 Oregon Coast hikes to reclaim the soul

November 2, 2022 by Matthew

Waves crash along the path on a famous Oregon Coast Hike at Shore Acres State Park. The sky is a swirl of gray and blue and the water foamy as it crashes on the rock formations.

The Oregon Coast is a stellar example of nature's forces joining in inspiring the human heart to open. Majestic fir trees line steep foothills grounding the earth while different versions of moss grip forests floors like a cozy shag carpet. Rough waves churn their way through ornate rock stacks -- proudly standing as a testament to resiliency. Wide open beaches allow space … [Read more...] about 10 Oregon Coast hikes to reclaim the soul

This area of Eastern Oregon, with thrilling views of Joseph, is known as the "Little Switzerland" of Oregon. On a clear day, witness the beauty of four states (Oregon, … [Read more...] about Wallowa Lake Tramway — Eagle Cap Wilderness magic

Wallowa Lake Lodge — a good night’s sleep in Eastern Oregon’s alpine wilderness

August 10, 2022 by Matthew

Beautiful Wallowa Lake with deep blue water and rising mountain peaks in the background.

There are many ways to engage nature in the Pacific Northwest, but I ask you this question: Are you ready to go deeper in your connection with Mother Earth? Some may ask, what is the best way to foster a meaningful relationship with the natural world if you're not camping? Under the towering Wallowa Mountains, situated at the edge of a pristine alpine lake, might be the … [Read more...] about Wallowa Lake Lodge — a good night’s sleep in Eastern Oregon’s alpine wilderness

My favorite things to do in Seaside, Oregon

April 20, 2022 by Matthew

The iconic lamp post on the Seaside Promenade is made of yellow painted concrete with a black casing for the light fixture. The sky is bright blue and just a faint line of surf from the ocean can be seen banging onto the beach.

My family has visited the Oregon Coast since before I can remember, and Seaside, Oregon was one of the favorites -- along with Cannon Beach. The proximity to our home near Portland (about ninety minutes) was convenient for a family drive, but there were also so many different things to do in Seaside, Oregon. In high school and college, my friends and I would pile into our cars … [Read more...] about My favorite things to do in Seaside, Oregon

I would like to acknowledge that much of my inspiration comes from living on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
