Moving to Seattle — 9 great ways to connect with Washington

July 21, 2021 by Matthew

This panoramic view of the skyline of Seattle includes the Space Needle and the Columbia Center amongst other prominent buildings. The lush blue water of the Salish Sea is rolling with gentle waves while two kayakers in bright colored boats navigate the gentle waters.

Post summary: a helpful list of easy ways to connect with nature for those new or moving to Seattle Seattle has been my home for ten years now. The abundance of nature in every direction inspires me everyday — flowing waterways, majestic mountain peaks and green textures all combine to form a rich fabric of organic goodness.  My life living in the Capitol Hill … [Read more...] about Moving to Seattle — 9 great ways to connect with Washington

Day trips from Seattle — 16 of the best getaways

July 1, 2021 by Matthew

Big Four Mountain commands this landscape photo with patches of snow amongst fir forests and a mowed meadow in the foreground.

Early morning day trips from Seattle can be the perfect salve to the soul. The stress of traffic is lulled away with the aspirations of exploring and experiencing all the magic the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Even thirty minutes into the voyage, the ratio of concrete to green vastly adjusts to fir trees and roadside patches of local shrubs. My world is completely based around travel. Not only have I flown across the globe countless times, I’ve also operated what I like to think is the best Washington State Airbnb experience from my home in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. I started in 2015 and earned Superhost status within a few months. Since then, providing hospitality to people from all over the planet has … [Read more...] about Superhost pro tips for the best Washington State Airbnb experience

A Smokey the Bear brown medal with beige print. It is a circle and he is in the middle looking directly toward the audience.

I loved Smokey the Bear growing up — probably because his story of renewal was inspiring to me. Out of the charcoal of a tinderbox forest fire in New Mexico, he was rescued, made a “spokes-bear”, and inspired generations to come. I remember Smokey saying, “Only YOU can prevent forest fires.” So I wonder, as my beloved Pacific Northwest burns in so many different fires and the … [Read more...] about Emerging through the smoke towards renewal

Nisqually Wildlife Refuge — remarkable day access to nature’s balance

August 26, 2020 by Matthew

A winding boardwalk traverses the marsh land at Nisqually Wildlife Refuge. The tide is out and reveals large areas of green grasses and the gazebo way in the distance is very tiny compared the the wide blue sky.

The Puget Sound is a commanding body of water that encapsulates a rich diversity of plants, trees, animals and interesting nooks and crannies -- all changing with the rise and fall of the daily tides. Where high tide exudes a water world of salty goodness, the low water mark reveals the underwater secrets -- uncovering giant kelp beds, mud flats and mollusks bathing in the … [Read more...] about Nisqually Wildlife Refuge — remarkable day access to nature’s balance

I would like to acknowledge that much of my inspiration comes from living on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
