John Day Fossil Beds — the best 3-day drive itinerary

August 4, 2021 by Matthew

Matthew Kessi poses for a photo at the overlook to the Blue Basin in John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The canyons are a variety of blue and green colors and continue up to grass covered slopes leading to pointed peaks. There are endless canyons in the background that flow to partly cloudy skies. Matthew is wearing a red shirt and green shorts and a backpack and blue hat. He looks sweaty, as if he is hiking.

Oregon is famous for natural diversity and Central Oregon hosts something for just about everyone. The famous variety of attractions cater perfectly to outdoor enthusiasts of all octane levels. Often overlooked is the other-worldly wonderland of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and the fascinating drive that offers an up-close and personal connection to this colorful, … [Read more...] about John Day Fossil Beds — the best 3-day drive itinerary

Tiger Town Brewing — Surprising kicks on Route 26

May 23, 2021 by Matthew

The bar inside the cozy refined country brewpub Tiger Town Brewing. The shelfs are full of various unique bottles of whiskey and other familiar items as well as fresh lemons and juicers on the counter.

US Highway 26 starts near Astoria, Oregon, and wanders through both countryside and cities, including Portland and Boise. At the heart of it all, in Central Oregon, is the bustling town of Bend. Wake up to the smells of juniper and sage dancing through the air while gazing at snow covered peaks, all from the sandy bank of the … [Read more...] about High desert delight — 10 great things to do in Bend Oregon

7 innovative ways to use your gazillion Alaska Airlines miles

May 12, 2021 by Matthew

Matthew Kessi deplanes from his Alaska Airlines flight after using frequent flyer miles to fly to Redmond/Bend Airport for a quick getaway. He's wearing a face mask and carrying a backpack.

The pandemic has been pretty good to mileage balances with airline plans, especially if you use a loyalty credit card and have still been spending money on Amazon during the pandemic. While it might still be too soon to cash in six figures of points — and many exotic locations are still not available — there are several ways to whet your travel appetite and gently dip your toes … [Read more...] about 7 innovative ways to use your gazillion Alaska Airlines miles

Vibrant colors of the Painted Hills tell me to chill

April 25, 2021 by Matthew

I want to see it all.  Her bands of red, gold and black, flowing down the hills like blood washing from the sea after a battle.  This battle took place over millions of years, revealing the magic of vibrant hues little by little as the wind, water and air chipped away at the history of geological Oregon, entombed by a thick layer of lava 30 million years … [Read more...] about Vibrant colors of the Painted Hills tell me to chill
