Seattle botanical gardens — the 10 best kept local secrets

August 12, 2020 by Matthew

A bright pink and yellow flower blooms open in the sunshine in the Perennial border garden of Bellevue Botanical Garden. The leaves around the bright flower are a lush green while more flowers farther away are out of focus.

A city garden, lovingly crafted by the hands of inspired green thumbs, provides one of the greatest services in an urban environment. A reminder that no matter where we are, nature is around us, flourishing and working hard to help the world persevere. Public gardens also place humanity on even ground, allowing the community at large to access the calming energy in a simple, … [Read more...] about Seattle botanical gardens — the 10 best kept local secrets

Day trip from Portland — 10 beautiful getaways

July 22, 2020 by Matthew

A wooded section of the historic Columbia River Highway which winds along the gorge in Oregon. This pavement road has a double yellow line in the center and the signature white painted wood guardrails from the 1920's add a bit of nostalgia to the scene.

Nothing beats the freeing feeling of setting out early in the morning for a day-trip adventure from Portland. No matter which direction, the rising mist flows to uncover the beauty of nature. It doesn't take too long for the green-to-concrete ratio to improve and soon enough open spaces of farmland, water, mountains and the ubiquitous douglas fir forests emerge as if to … [Read more...] about Day trip from Portland — 10 beautiful getaways

July 1, 2020 by Matthew

A row of concrete traffic barricades are covered in plywood and painted with a variety of messages. This is in the Black Lives Matter protest area of Capitol Hill in Seattle.

For the purposes of this article, I will refer to the area as CHOP, which existed for a few weeks in June, 2020. This area was initially known as CHAZ for Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone but eventually transitioned to CHOP.Capitol Hill is my home. The rolling hills of the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle remain near and dear to my heart.  Greenery abounds in every … [Read more...] about The Art of Seattle CHOP (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) — a photo gallery

The 10 best views of the Seattle skyline

April 4, 2020 by Matthew

View of Seattle from Kerry Park on Queen Anne. In the forefront is a telescope facing towards Mt. Rainier in the background rising up above the skyline of the city of Seattle. The Space Needle graces the line of buildings in a prominent manner with the futuristic looking building. The sky is blue and the grass in the foreground amongst deciduous trees.

Seattle is an amazing city with one of the most beautiful backdrops in the world -- vast expanses of water and majestic mountains rising in all directions. The downtown area roars with skyscrapers and cranes building even more of the tall geometric shapes, while the surrounding hills provide endless rows of condo and apartment buildings as well as houses that started popping … [Read more...] about The 10 best views of the Seattle skyline

I would like to acknowledge that much of my inspiration comes from living on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
