What I wish I would’ve known about the ancient Mayan city of Coba

February 7, 2020 by Matthew

A wide view of 137 feet tall Nohoch Mul pyramid amongst the ancient mayan ruins of Coba. The mound of rocks is the tallest pyramid on the Yucatan Peninsula. Climbers make their way up and down the rock structure, many holding on to a rope affixed to the rocks for support. Jungle trees stand in the background amongst a bright blue sky day.

The Christmas edition was a particularly wonderful way to get excited … [Read more...] about Where will you go in 2020? A global wish list.

Ten ways to reduce travel carbon footprint

October 9, 2019 by Matthew

One of two large Tetrapanax plants that's grown from a small seedling to a tree over 15 feet tall in my back yard. The leaves are sometimes four feet across and funnel water into droplets on rainy days. I want to do more to reduce my carbon footprint so that my plants won't have to work as hard.

I want to come clean. I love to travel. I love airplanes. I love to fly. I love to GO. But my love of GO as a way to reach my dreams and goals around traveling and connecting with the world involves a size 16 carbon footprint. So when I say I love the planet I have to ask myself, "is this really true?" Do I care enough to make hard choices, sacrifices or do I just expect … [Read more...] about Ten ways to reduce travel carbon footprint

I would like to acknowledge that much of my inspiration comes from living on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
