Seattle in Summer — the best outdoor things to do

May 10, 2022 by Matthew

There are so many gardens in Seattle that make for great outdoor things to do. here a bee is on a red flower with yellow center while other plants are out of focus in the background.

It feels like we wait all year for vibrant sunshine to grace our foreheads and the daylight to last past 9 PM. It’s the perfect time of year to truly enjoy the best outdoor Seattle Summer things to do. While the local joke that ‘the rain doesn’t stop until the day after the 4th of July in Seattle’ feels true for many years, the warmer weather and longer days encourage discovery … [Read more...] about Seattle in Summer — the best outdoor things to do

Fall in Seattle — 25 of the best outdoor things to do

September 15, 2021 by Matthew

An array of harvest gourds are piled up on some straw bales against a gray wood barn.

Fall in Seattle is a glorious time of year! The pace settles down after a busy summer tourist season and a contemplative feeling sweeps through the city. My favorite parks and gardens are still alive with color -- late-season flowers and then the changing leaves. The Salish Sea continues to ebb and flows below moodier autumn skies that can't help but inspire wanderlust … [Read more...] about Fall in Seattle — 25 of the best outdoor things to do

Vegan restaurant guide to Seattle

February 12, 2021 by Matthew

"Full disclosure, I’m not a true vegan. Sure, I came of age as a young adult in Portland, around tons of friends who were veggies and strict vegans, but the plant-based lifestyle has been an acquired taste for me over the years. Although I’ve always loved anything made with chickpeas, I fell accidentally into becoming a pescatarian about three years ago when the doctor … [Read more...] about Vegan restaurant guide to Seattle

Seattle is a city busting with natural beauty in every direction. Dramatic mountains partner with the flowing Salish Sea to frame in a metropolitan area rich with views and abundant water, seemingly in every direction. The topography adds further texture to the makeup of the city, where steep hills ring nerves of many a manual transmission driver traversing between … [Read more...] about Where to stay Seattle — pro tips to the best neighborhoods

The Art of Seattle CHOP (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) — a photo gallery

July 1, 2020 by Matthew

A row of concrete traffic barricades are covered in plywood and painted with a variety of messages. This is in the Black Lives Matter protest area of Capitol Hill in Seattle.

For the purposes of this article, I will refer to the area as CHOP, which existed for a few weeks in June, 2020. This area was initially known as CHAZ for Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone but eventually transitioned to CHOP. Capitol Hill is my home. The rolling hills of the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle remain near and dear to my heart.  Greenery abounds in … [Read more...] about The Art of Seattle CHOP (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) — a photo gallery

I would like to acknowledge that much of my inspiration comes from living on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
